Human translation and machine translation: A study of the problems in Padideh translation software

The aim of this paper is to identify one of the problems in machine translation. To do this, Padideh translation software was used to translate 18 different English sentence groups. Findings indicated that the software had many problems emerging from these factors: 1) lack of linguistics experts at Padideh group, 2) syntax-based theory of language, and 3) lack of reasoning and thinking ability in translation machines. The paper Suggests that first type of problems can be solved with the help of professional staff. Second type of problems can be solved through a revision in the theory of language. The third type of problems, lack of reasoning and thinking ability can not be solved at the present time. However, concludes that using machines instead of humans for translating internet resources, particularly when the aim is to understand the general meaning, would be easier, faster and more reasonable.
