This paper introduces the definition and concept of the Invisible Web or the Hidden Internet and also elucidates the major factors causing phenomenon in the Web environment. Different parts of the Internetʹs dark realm including Deep Web, Opaque Web, Private Web, Proprietary Web and Dead Web have been introduced and explained individually and also the importance of each one has been clarified briefly. Moreover, the present paper refers to the incredible size and considerable quality of the information resources which have been hidden in the shade of the Invisible Web and also puts particular emphasis on the importance of information seeking and retrieval through the outside of the general-purpose search engineʹs information retrieval domain. Regarding this reality that the information resources in the Invisible Web usually possess high quality, this portion of the Web environment is very important and we cannot ignore these resources simply. The significant role of librarians and information professionals in enhancing the usersʹ awareness about the existence and significance of the Invisible Web is one of the other debates in this article. Generally, this awareness helps them to improve their search experiences to locate more valuable and relevant information resources. Additionally, the responsibility of librarians and information experts in developing different types of information gateways or subject portals has been discussed as well.
