Background & Aims: To archive the society health and prevent from environmental pollutionʹ hospital wastewaters must be collectedʹ treated and disposed with engineering and health methods.
Incorrect wastewater treatment plants and destination to practical factors in designs are effective agents in decrease of treatment plant efficiency. Treatment plant in this hospital is a complete mixed activated sludge process. Treatment plant effluent is discharged to covered canal in north of hospital.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive study was accomplished in order to determine of wastewater treatment plant efficiency in mentioned hospital for removing of BOD5ʹ CODʹ TSS and MPN. Also SVIʹ PH &DO indexes were determined for aid to distinguish of treatment plant deficiency reasons. Because correspond to optical index, quality of effluent from this treatment plant was not suitable, sampling from of treatment plant was accomplished four times during the period of 2nd month of summer season in 2003 (in this month wastewater treatment plants have high efficiency). Collected samples were carried within less than 2 hours to laboratory of west Azarbaijan environmental research center and then were examined.
Results: Results of this study showed that effluent from this treatment plant hasnʹt suitable quality for discharge to surface waters. Because concentration mean of CODʹ BOD5 and TSS of this effluent are in the order 374 mg/lʹ 60.5 mg/1 and 50 mg/1. Number of fecal coli forms in this effluent is greater than 1000 per 100"
Discussion: Results of this study indicated that greatly COD of influent (1028 mg/1) with negative effect on floc - forming microorganisms is one of the agents in creation of SVI< 70 mllg. Besides incorrect discharge of waste sludge from secondary clarifier and irregular return of sludge to aeration tank also have negative effect on treatment plant efficiency?
