Development and Evaluation of a Mounted Spinning Disk Sprayer in and a Conventional Tractor Mounted Boom Sprayer

In this study a prototype tractor mounted spinning disk sprayer was constructed in order to reduce the amount of herbicides and to survey the spinning disk nozzles. Machine performance was evaluated in comparison with conventional boom sprayer and no spraying treatments with respect to effectiveness, herbicide consumption per hectare and spraying homogeneity. The experimental randomized complete blocks design (RCBD) with three treatments and replications was used. The effect of treatments on sugar beet weed control was evaluated. Results proved that there was no significant difference between spinning disk sprayer and conventional sprayer for weed control. However the difference between spraying methods and no spraying treatment (after 20 and 25 days) was significant. Moreover there was significant difference between spinning disk and conventional sprayers with respect to herbicide consumption. It was shown that there was no significant difference between spraying methods with spinning disk sprayer and no spraying treatment. Average consumption in conventional boom sprayer and spinning disk sprayer herbicide was 318.9 and 6.5 litlha, respectively. Spinning disk sprayer reduced herbicide water consumption about 98%. Volume Mean Diameter (VMD) and Number Median Diameter (NMD) were 242.6p and l16µ respectively and spraying quality coefficient was 2.08.
