To explain their ontological views, mystics, theologians and philosophers have used various allegories. In mysticism these allegories have a greater signification due to the subtlety of understanding and intuition. The mystic Shaykh Mahmood Shabestari has used various allegories in his famous book Golshan-e Raz. Shamsoddin Mohammad Lahiji has explained these allegories in his Mafatih Al-E jaz. Shabestariʹs most important allegories may be divided into the four categories: arbitrariness of the world, appearance of unity in diversity, irritability of divine manifestations and the flow of divine ompassion and knowledge in all creation. The purpose of this paper is to classify, compare and criticize these allegories.
