the effect of Oxandrolone Treatment in Height and Weight Velocity in Boys With Constitutional Growth Delay

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of oxandrolone on weight and height velocity in boys with constitutional growth delay (CGD). The study was prospective double blind self controlled and 46 boys with CGD received oxandrolone as a dosage of0.06mg/kg/day in 3 months and placebo in the 3 other months. Height and weight measured at time of diagnosis and at the 3-month interval with used placebo or drug. The average of height velocity were 1.33cm and 2.05cm with placebo and drug respectively. There is also observed that an increased 1.55kg of weight with oxandrolone versus 0.58kg with placebo. The difference between weight and height velocity after drug treatment in comparison with placebo were statistically significant (P<0.01). Their results suggest that low dose oxandrolone administration in boys with CGD cause an increase of weight and height.
