Introduction: Many parts of the world today suffer from limited sources of water supply. As a result much attention is paid to refining wastewater sources. Refined wastewater is used in agriculture, groundwater feeding, industry and fish breeding. Advanced wastewater refinement was carried out to provide a microbial standard. Material & Methods: This research was conducted to study the performance of the triple media filter for the removal of microbial agents from Sahebghranieh wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). A pilot plant scale filter with a total height of 2 meters and a surface cross-section of 36 cm was used. The triple media filter had an overall media height of 7.5 cm, is composed of 40 cm anthracite upper layer, and has 25cm of silica on top and 10 cm of garnet. Treated wastewater, after coagulation and flocculation processes, was poured through three layers of filter at different rates (5, 8, and 12 m/hr). Finally, the wastewater was disinfected by chlorine. The function of this system was assessed. Results: Filter efficiency in removal of coliform, fecal coliform and nematode was not dependant on the over flow rate and the average removal rate was 46185, 45184, and 100 percent respectively. Also wastewater chlorination from the filter in the amount of 10 mgll can remove 99 percent of the coliform and fecal coliform. Conclusion: The application of this method of advanced wastewater treatment can achieve high standards.
