The effect of shearing time on live weight and wool production of native Arabic lambs in Ramin area

The effect of shearing time on live weight and wool production of Arabic lambs in Ramin farm (35 km north of Ahwaz) was investigated. In this study, 120 ewe lambs which were born during autumn were randomly divided in two equal groups. One of the groups was shorn at their first spring (group 1). The other group was kept unshorn as control (group 2). The live weight of both groups was recorded monthly for a year. At the end of the experiment both groups were shorn at the same time. The live weight of group I (Two times shorn lambs), was higher (32.96 ± 0.19 kg) Than group 2 which was kept unshorn (31.98 ± 0.18 kg). Greasy fleece weight of group 1 also was higher Than (3480 ± 68 gr) Found to be group2 (2491 ± 64 gr). The results have shown that shearing of autumn born lambs at their first spring (8-9 months age) could be a stimulator factor of growth rate and wool production of ewe lambs in this area.
