Path analysis of correlation cofficients for agronomic traits with grain and straw yield of bread wheat Genotypes under deficit irrigation.

The analysis of correlation coefficient for different traits and yield components with grain yield , straw yield , and harvest index have not been sufficiently studied under deficit irrigation , despite their importance in selection and breeding programs of different crop varieties . During 1999-2000 cropping season , an experiment was conducted using 10 rain - fed spring genotypes in a complete block design with 4 replications to determine the effect of each trait on grain yield. Also , the direct and indirect effects of traits and yield components on grain yield , straw yield , and harvest index were investigated. The experiment was carried out at Koohdasht area of Lorestan province , Iran . Among the evaluated traits , biological yield had the highest degree of correlation coefficient with grain yield ( r= 0.66 ** ) Among yield components , 1000 kernel weight had highest degree of correlation cofficient with grain yield (r = 0.44 ** ). To determine the most effective characters on grain yield , straw yield , and harvest index, stepwise regression analysis was used . Four traits i.e.1000 kernel weight , peduncle length ,test weight , and the number of kernels per spike were the most effective traits on grain yield . Five characters , i.e. flag leaf width , number of days to stem , grain filling speed , grain filling period , and growth type were the most effective traits on straw yield . Two traits , i.e. straw yield and grain yield were the most effective traits on harvest index . The path analysis showed that peduncle length ( 0.58 ** ) and 1000 kernel weight ( 0.50 ** ) , had highest positive and direct effects on grain yield .
