Biological Evaluation of a Phosphorus Source Prepared with a New Process on Broiler Chicks

This experiment was conducted to evaluate some mines of the country for production of Dicalcium phosphate to be used broiler chick nutrition. Phosphate rock was obtained from Yard Asfordy mine and converted to dicalcium phosphate by using a direct process consists of that three main steps: phosphate rock digestion, deliuorination, and neutralization. A total of 450 day-old mixed sex broiler chicks were used in a 21-d study to compare the new dicalcium phosphate with a commercial one as standard, using a randomized design with six treatments of three replicates (twenty five chickens in each). Diet contained adequate levels of all nutrients except for P level and dicalcium phosphate source. The basal diet contained 0.23% available phosphorus and 0.25% calcium. The supplemented diets were produced by using appropriate levels of each phosphorus source to provide phosphorus levels with commercial DCP at four levels of 85, 90, 95 and 100% and new DCP at two levels of 85 and 100% of the requirement recommended by NRC (1994). Calcium content of the diets was kept constant (0.9%). Biological and relative biological value of P sources as well as performance of broiler chicks were determined at 21-d age. Data reported here shows that performance was not significantly different (p> 0.05) among the two P sources tested, the new P being desirable for broiler chicks. Reduction of P up to 15% below the recommended level had no significant effect on broiler performance (P<0.05).
