A Study of In vitro and In vivo Pollen Germination of Three Olive (Olea europaea .L .) Cultivars

For an evaluation of pollen germination In vivo and In vitro conditions in the case of three Olive (Olea europaea L.) cultivars namely, Dezful cv. , Sevillana and No.3, an experiment with Nested Experimental Design was carried out in Safiabad Agr. Res. Center in 1998. The results of In vitro pollen germination in different temperatures showed that a temperature of 25°C was the best for all cultivars. Pollen germination for No.3 and Sevillana was 60% and 22.3% respectively. Pollen germination for Dezful cv. at this temperature was 39.5%. The results in the case of In vivo germination showed that 29.0% and 59.9% of Dezful and No.3 cv. pollens germinated on stigma of Dezful cv. respectively. This may be because of self incompatiblity. Twenty percent of Sevillana pollens germinated when set on Dezful stigma.
