An Introduction to Historical Semantics

The article surveys the semantic evolution of Persian terminology in each cycle. Language evolution takes place in different areas of phonetics, phonemics, spelling, vocabulary budding, syntax and semantic and conceptual fields. In some areas the changes are explicit while in others they are gradual and implicit. The study bears importance in that one can find out about the evolution of changes, the origin of meaning in ancient and modern words, relation between languages and dialects and various meta-lingual, social, ethnic and cultural changes. In this way, relations between past and present culture can be partially revealed.
