The impact of drug dependency on spousal agreement

Aim:Drug dependency and its effects on spousal relationship has become an important topic in recent years. There are few studies in Iran about the effects of drug dependency on spousal agreement and this subject has largely been researched in quantitative ways. The present research is qualitative in nature and seeks to explore the links between drug dependency and spousal relationship through the lives of drug dependent people. Therefore attempts were made to find answers for various research questions such as to what extent can drug dependency effect on participantsʹ spousal agreement? Have there been any remarkable differences in terms of this aspect among different group of the participants? etc. Method: The research sample included 41 interviewees (30 male and 11 female subjects), some (23 subjects) were selected for interviewing in Rasht Self-referred Drug Addictsʹ Treatment Center (SRDATC) and 18 other were selected from outside SRDATC and took part in this research and answered the questions. All the interview sessions were recorded after the permission of the interviewees and each were repeatedly reviewed and encoded for detailed analysis of the statements. Results:Thus the intended information was elicited out of the interview transcripts. In such a manner that taking satisfactions, interrelationships and agreement was probably degraded as a result of participantsʹ drug dependency, to the extent that it paved the way for family disintegration. Finally, some implications from the key research findings and comments were suggested for relevant policy makers and professionals and also several suggestions were made for further research in these areas.
