successful comprtition in the arena of global markets can be attributed to the , f imctioning of governments and the finisʹ strategic orientations. Relatively considerable pieces of research have been develod to the ways and means by which the Iranian government can facilitate and encourage exports. But the effects the firmsʹ strategies, particularly export strategies, can have in boosting the exports of the couninʹʹs non-oil products have been underresearched. This second subject, therefore, is well worth exploring This research is, thus, meant for finding out the relationship between the firms export strategies and their performances. It is believed that should some research establish positive relationship between the two, whatever the government encouragement policies, they, in themselves, encourage the firms to get involved in exports. Having used quite a few statistical tests to examine several relevent hypotheses on a sample of 400 exporters, who had been in this business by persisting on a particular strategy, for five years and achieving 10,000 worth of exports, a strong positive relationship could be established between the firms exports strategies and their performances. This research also indicated that it is tenable to use strategic management models to account for the falling exports of this country between 1973 (1994) and 1377 (1997).
