Different Approaches to Studying Culture, with a Focus on the Methodological Dimension

Cultural studies have a particular place in the social science literature. While little consensus exists on the concept, most social analysts agree on the importance of cultural studies for the social science discipline. For social life cannot he viewed as a mere "object" or a set of "realities" on a par with the natural world phenomena. Social life includes various forms of ideas, values, beliefs, symbols, attitudes, discourses, and texts as well as their creative and purposeful actors who aim to understand themselves and others through what they receive and project in cognition of a meaningful social life. It is obvious that a deep understanding of the various cultural layers demands appropriate methodologies. This in turn requires an understanding of various available methodologies, their assumptions, and the capabilities of their techniques.
