A New Solution Method to the MBE Using Genetic Algorithm for Determination of Initial Hydrocarbon Volume and Reservoir Performance

A new solution method to the MBE using Genetic Algorithms (GA) is presented in this paper following by three different examples solved by this technique, as well. In this approach, the role of the aquifer models in solving the MBE has been discarded because of the uncertainties existing in the aquifer properties. The latter is an important source of error in the material balance calculations. This research shows that material balance calculations are still vigorous tools in reservoir engineering to understand the field dynamic performance, in spite of recent developed complex reservoir simulators.
