3D Modeling of Rock Excavations in Discontinuous Media and Development of a New Method for Block Contact Detection

Discontinuities such as joints and faults make jointed media. There are several methods for analysis of these media; numerical methods arc the best of them. In this paper 3D modeling of jointed rock mass and excavation geometry algorithms have been programmed. This program is in fact a pre-processor to be used in conjunction with the numerical methods for jointed media such as Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Discontinuities Deformation Analysis (DDA). Attempts are made to improve the efficiency of computational process, in comparison with existing algorithms.
