INTELLIGENT CITY & ITS IMPLICATION IN IRAN

Intelligent city is a community which has bean reinforced by information technology. It is supposed that many existing urban problems can be solved through usage of information technology. Iranian cities now are faced with variety of problems such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and irregular demographic distributions. These problems are mainly routed in land use & zoning systems which themselves are depended on the spatial development of work places, housing locations & the production facilities. In spatial terms, many countries have seen a greater mobility of residential areas, work places & production facilities by using information technology. Iranian planners, designers & developers have tried to use I.T. to transform of traditional & existing cities into intelligent cities. But, compared to other countries, they are far from an acceptable situation. For at least two reasons, considerable work needs to be done to developed electronic infrastructure for Iranian city structures. First compared to industrial countries, Iran is far behind inregard to information infrastructure. Second, Iranian cities are suffering from mismanagement, and therefore, making I.T.as a crucial element in planning and development.
