As a result of industrial development and numberous applications of chemical agents. The environment has been polluted by different kinds of toxic materials. Lead is used in different industries and concentration of his toxic heavy metal is increasing in the environment. Environmental lead pollution can damage the life of human beings and other creatures in many ways. It seems that fetal and chilhood stages are more vulnerable to these toxic effects. In the present study, the effects of lead on the histological structure of the pancreas f on - day rats has been investigated by light microscope.
In this study female and male wistar rats were chosen by simple random sampling. After copulation and observation of vaginal plage, the male and female were separated. Pregnant rats were divided in to two groups: control group and Experimental group. At the first day of pregnancy and during the pregnancy period (21 days), Pregnant rats in the experimental group were given 0107% Lead acetate solution through the drinking water while the control group were given pure distilled water.
Immediatley after parturition, morphological features of new - borns were studied. Then they were anesthesized by ether, sacrified and their pancreas extracted. For light microscopic study. the pancreas was fixed 10% formallin solution, then processed, impregnated, embedded, sectioned and stained with H & E Acid-Fast techniques and was studied histopathologically.
The result of the light microscopic studies show that this dose of lead has effects on the histological structure of the pancreas and causes lesions in different parts of new- horns, pancreas in the experimental group. Light microscopic studies revealed that in the experimental group. Light microscopic studies revealed that borders of pancreatic lobules and borders of acinar cells have disappeared. We observed irregular and abnormal lobules, acini, Langerhans iselets and structural changes in new - horns pancreas of the experimental group. We observed and increase in the amount of connective tissue or fibrosis, piknosis, degeneration, necrosis and dislocation of acinar cells nuclei. Light microscopic studies confirmed the presence of lead in the erythrocytes and intranuclear inclusion bodies in some acinar cells of pancreas.
Finally, we observed that the histological structure of ats new born pancreas of experimental group were irregular and abnormal. In this study photomicrography were taken from lesions observed in the pancreatic tissue.
