Iranian CNG Pipeline towards South Asia and its Security Consequences

Taking into account the recent developments in the concept of security, the author attempts to show that the energy demand in South Asia is a vital issue. He accordingly believes that with the pipeline reaching South Asia, four important security problems will be somehow resolved or their resulting tensions will be decreased. These problems are : India and Pakistanʹs disagreements over Kashmir; Iran and Pakistanʹs disagreements over Afghanistan; factionalism in Pakistan; as well as Moslems and Hindus disputes in India. In addition, the author believes that the Iranian pipeline to South Asia will create exceptional opportunities for the improvement of the countryʹs strategic position. One of these opportunities is the removal of the need to conduct similar projects in the region. This, in turn, will link the security of regional states with that of the IRI, which will naturally decrease her vulnerabilities to threats.
