A Legal Outlook of the North Korean Exit From the N.P.T

A study is hereby made of the impact on the process of disarmament, arms control and Non-Proliferation Treaty of the exit of North Korea from the NPT. Moreover, a general analysis of legal aspects of the event, makes the necessary bases for the assessment of the North Korean attempt in the context of lessons from the International Law. Due to the currently suggested issue of Iranʹs exit from N.P.T., a careful look at the event, will indirectly determine the pros and cons of the idea. In general, although the exit choice is an indication of sovereignty, with an eye to the international rules of agreements (including Vienna 1969 Convention, treaty rights, as well as special regulations of disarmament and non-proliferation), adopting this alternative is legally discouraged. Newly formed legal barriers are mostly rooted in the development of the concept of maintaining international peace and security. Political disadvantages of resorting to the exit choice, however, are of considerable concern. In sum, this article is solely dedicated to the examination of the legal outlook of the North Korean choice of exit from the proliferation regime.
