Due to strategic importance of purcgasing in the success of firms, more research required to be done in the area. This paper develops a procedure to select the reliable suppliers. The procedure considers the main strategies of firms and provides information, evaluated candidates and filters them step by step. Using compensatory and non-compensatory criteria, the superior, good and weak suppliers are specified. The mathematical models are used in each step if necessary. The advantage of hierachical models is to use the new information is available in each step.
