THE ROLE OF MILITARY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL CRISES

The management of natural crises, like other types of crises, requires swift and thought-out decision making as well as highly extensive and large responses. Such decisions and responses require organizational preparedness and extensive resources, and military organizations are often among others (or the only ones) that benefit from these resources and preparedness efforts. For this purpose, in case crises occur, armies are the first organizations that move into the arena of crisis management. Depending on the type of environment, their intervention in crises involves different stages of crisis management. In some countries, the major role of armies is limited to countering and making elementary responses, and in a few others, it continues up to the final stage of crisis.
