Osteomyelitis of coronoid process of mandible following Inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia

Aim: This report of my own practice is presented to provide information on how to deal with such cases. Case Report: A 48 year old male is presented with diagnosis of plerygoid and masseteric space abscess of the left side of mandible after multiple extraction of upper and lower anterior teeth. Report included a history of injection of inferior alveolar nerve block with a possible infected needle. In spite of incision, drainage of abscess and antibiotic therapy complains from pus discharge were remained in the retromolar pad area associated with trismus. Results: After removing necrotic coronoid process under general anesthesia and antibiotic therapy, the pus discharge and trisnuns was resolved Conclusion: Pathologic examination of removed coronoid process proved its involvement to the osteomyelitis, So principle of sterilization in deep local anesthetic procedures like inferior alveolar and tuberosity block should be considered essential.
