The Trend of Development and Evolution of Warfare and Armament in the Initial Centuries of Islamic Era

Alongside the historical trend of advancement and sophistication of warfare and conflict tactics, war armament and weaponry systems also has followed the logic of technological development and advancement of the time. In the present article, we are trying to follow up and review the trend of warfare as well as the development and evolution of wars from simple to sophisticated and developed wars, and extend this review from field to urban and besieging wars and then maritime wars which muslims fought in the first centuries of Islamic era and the effects of this trend on development and advancement of weaponry and armament systems will be discussed. We follow this developmental trend during a few centuries including the era of Holy Prophet of Islam (field and simple wars), the first four caliphs (Rashedin) age, (besieging and developed wars), and the era of Omavi and Abbasi dynasties (the age of sophisticated and maritime wars). And finally we depict that warfare has been getting more complicated and sophisticated alongside with developments and advancements in armament and weaponry systems.
