After praising wisdom and paying tribute to the Creator, Firdusi (932-1020 AD.) begins Shahnameh (the great Persian epic) with the story of Kioumarth as the worldʹs first headsman and then goes on to tell the stories of Houshang and Tahmoureth. Like other fables in this epic poem, the socio-political aspects of these stories may be read from different perspectives.
This article discusses the importance of these early stories in that they lay down the foundations of the first human government, its administrative principles, and the complications thereof.
The article, then, elaborates ten major issues dealt with in these three stories including the prominent features of the then society and its dominant social relationships, the formation of tasks based on needs and necessities, specifying the approaches to fulfilling such needs as urbanization and the discovery of fire and iron, celebrating any ʹeventʹ to both boost national pride and encourage or motivate, to name but a few.
