Stainless steel 3161, is one of the most important alloys in aerospace, medical, oil and gas industry application. However, efforts are focused on increasing its mechanical properties as well as corrosion resistance. Oxide and sulfide inclusions are responsible for reduction of mechanical strength, such as fatigue life and impact strength and corrosion resistance. This study concentrated on reduction of oxygen and hence, oxide inclusions through deoxidation process during melting and casting. Deoxidation was conducted by different means, i.e. melting in vacuum with simultaneous addition of carbon and also melting under N2 atmosphere with addition of Si and Al to the melt. Using Scanning Electron Microscope and analyzing the inclusions using EDS, it is found that oxide inclusion was reduced to a considerable amount by the used methods
