A Survey of Causultive Factors in Landslides Occurance in Middle Karoon Basin

Landslides are an expensive, dangerous, and sometimes deadly geologic hazard in the Middle Karoon Basin. Landslides can damage or destroy homes, roadways, and utility infrastructure and endanger lives. Landslides occur during the end of winter or early spring. The natural and residential situation of the basin is the main reason for occurance of landslides. The geological, tectonical, topographical and geomorphical situation are the most important causultive factors in this regards. The majority of landslides have been on the elevation from 1500-3000 and slope ranging from 20 to 50 percent. This class of slope also covers the most part of the basin. The impermable materials mainly marns, interlayered by permable layers, could be also considered as an important causetive factor in landslide occurance in this area. The study area is located in Zagrus rise folded regin which is tectonically active and the resulted crashed zone is suceptible to erosional factors. The tectonical activities are also responsible in neotectonical uplifts, resulting in increasing the dynamical potential of running water, leading to degradation of flood plain and undercutting of river banks and as the result slope failure.
