Sociology of Iraqi Army Defeat with an analysis of Collapse of Social Bases of the Iraq Army

The Prompt military defeat of Iraqi Army has raised many questions for public opinions. Although many analysits acknowledged that the US military forces would finally gain victory, few of them could imagine the rapid collapse of Iraqi Army. At least, some of the Pentagon military leaders have considered the capabilities of Iraqi presidential Gaurds and security forces as a force to be reckoned with. In most of the political and military analyses, it was the same military and technological power of the Army which was stressed on. The present article has been focused on the loss of social bases of Iraqi Army with an emphasis on the point that the dictatorship system of Iraq Baʹath Party under Saddamʹs leadership, had destroyed the power and abilities of military comanders and the relationships of popular forces and social environment includes various racial and social groups who were serving in Iraq Army. The loss of social bases of Iraq Army, practically resulted in the defeat of the Army in the face of invaders. In the present article, by paying attention to the theoretical analysis of warfare sociology, imaginations of social forces, that is, the Shiʹat society, the Kurds, and the Sonni Arabs in Iraq, as well as those of US adminstration and Iraq government from the battlefield will be discussed and then we evaluate the gap between these imaginations and realities of combat in the battlefield.
