A Comparative Study of Vinegar Solution Bath and Soda Solution Bath in the Treatment of Candida Vaginitis in Sabzevar Clinic in 1379-80

Candida albicans is the most common cause of vaginitis . About 75% of women experience candida vaginitis at least once throughout their lives . In this study , 79 women with marked caudida vaginitis and positive fungal culture were assigned randomly into two groups of vinegar bath and soda bath ; a third group was considered as control group . Vaginal chlotrimazole was prescribed for the three groups as local treatment . Vagina PH vriation with awdiliary treatments was the basis of treatment for this study . The results indicated that symptoms such as vaginal secretions , itching , vaginitis and candida secretions did improve after the treatment . Both groups experienced improvements in burning , dyspareunia and dysuria ; however , vulvitis and hypogastrium pain improved only with the soda bath group . But Kruskal-Wallis test indicated no improvement in the clinical symptoms of the three groups . Also , one week after the treatment , 48% of the control group , 52.4% of the vinegar solution bath group and 57.9 %aof the soda bath group experienced negative furngal culture ; however , it was not statistically significant (P>0.05) . Spearman test revealed a correlation between vaginitis improvement and marital age and also between improvement in vaginal secretion and times of intercourse .
