Higereducation system in different countries based on their local, national, cultural & social characteristics and necessities have used distance education to provide education & training in different fields
and levels.
The quality of learning in these systems compare with formal
educational system has been the most discussed issue by proponents and opponents of Distance education. This article learning efficiency and efficacy of students of physical education enrolled in formal and distance education are compared. The entrance examination scores (both theory and performance), high school average and educational self-concept, and performance are compared and the program effect are investigated.
The statistical population of this study consisted of physical education student who completed & close questionnaires (240 questions on their education performance) and a questionnaire on educational self - concept during 1378-9 and the respectives scores on entrance examination obtained form national testing organization.
The results show that the students enrolled indistance education system have lower and weaker educational background than the formal students and difference is statistically significant. Positive & significant correlation was observed between educational background and educational performance. The findings show that despite of higher behavioural scores of the formal system, the students of distance education have higher performance scores in theoretical courses concerning basic and social sciences. No statistical diffrences was observed between two groups with regard to practical courses.
