A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF INFLUENZA VACCINE ON REDUCTION OF SYMPTOMS OF INFLUENZA IN HAJJ PIL GRINS

The aim of the work was to to determine the efficacy of routine vaccination against the popular subtype of influenza virus in Saudi Arabia . 220 Hajj pilgrims were divided into two groups; one group was vaccinated, while the other was not . During the Hajj period, six major signs and symptoms of influenza - like symdrome which included fever, myalgia , cough , coryza signs , pharyngitis and headache were checked in both the groups . Duration of fever and myalgia showed a significant difference between the two groups . The efficacy of vaccination in reducing the incidence of all checked signs and symptoms was in an acceptable range . Regarding the efficacy of vaccination in decreasing the incidence of signs and symptoms and comparing them to the data obtained from other researches , we can suggest the influenza vaccination as an effective procedure for reducing the influenza - like syndrome during the Hajj period .
