نقش امواج داخلي در ايجاد ساختارهاي لايه اي در آبهاي مياني دريايي خزر

Considering the potential density field in the middle water of the Caspian Sea ranging from the southern basin to middle basin, there should be a deep gravity current between the two basins. This flow can be observed from the north in deep water and from the south in the surface. Typical density difference between the basins can generate deep current of order of 0.17 m/s. Such current, as plumes over sloped boundary can set-up internal waves of which their normal modal structure can generate horizontal shear layers. Vertical profile of temperature, salinity and density in the middle of water between the two basins show layered structure that can be attributed to the modal structure of internal waves. These profiles also show that double diffusive convection could not be responsible for these layers. For accurate investigation of these processes repeated measurements of the profiles are required. Such iayered structures may be important for transfer processes as well as acoustic transmission.
