dsRNAs ASSOCIATED WITH FUSARIUM GRAMlNEARUM ISOLATES IN IRAN

Isolates of Fusarium graminearum , the causal agent of Fusarium head blight (FHB) of wheat, collected in various regions of Iran were tested for the presence or absence of dsRNA fragments. dsRNA fragments ranging from 1.5 to 6 kbp were detected in 18 out of 250 isolates examined in this study. Most isolates tested positive for the presence of dsRNA contained more than one dsRNA species. More or less similar dsRNA fragments were generally detected in the isolates of one each region. Morphological properties of isolates with or without dsRNAs were also studied. Considerable differences in mycelial growth , colony form and color were observed between the two types of isolates collected from Jirofl, Dasht - Naz and Gorgan regions. However no such differences were observed among isolates collected from Pars - Abad region.
