Cryptosporidium is a small parasite living in the epithelial cells of the respiratory, gasterointestinal and the urinary
systems of vertebrates. In this study by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), the trachea and the bursa of fabricius
of broiler chickens experimentally infected by C. baileyi were examined. Tissue samples from the trachea and the bursa
of fabricius were fixed in 3% gluteraldehyde, post-fixed in ascending concentration of ethanol and critical-point dried,
mounted on aluminium stubs, coated with carbon and examined under SEM. All mocusal surfaces of the bursa were
affected and very dense population of the parasite were observed on the epithelium. However less concentration of the
parasite was observed on the tracheal epithelium. The mucocilliary apparatus was no longer visible.
