Rent - Seeking and Economic Development

This article addresses the effects of rent - Seeking on economic development. It is Conceived that rent - Seeking, especially in the Societies with old - fashioned institutional and legal arrangements or with undemocratic Political Structure, leads to lower Macroeconomic performance and makes the process of economic development very costly. In this way, the effects of rent - Seeking on economic development are Surveyed in two Sections. In the first Section, the four negative effects of rent - Seeking one analyzed: 1)Efficiency loss; 2) Gordon - loss; 3) Stephen Babaʹs loss; 4) incorrect choice loss. In the Second Section, The negative elfects of rent - Seeking on some basic elements of economic development are surveyed. the studies in This regard explain why some countries propgres and some others regres.
