Analysis of Recent Drought in Mashad by Using Some of the Drought Indices

Drought is a silent phenomena ofʹ the nature which forms at global scale level Put acts.at local scale. Its occurrence is inevitable and its damage can only be mitigated by deep understanding or the basis or this phenomenon. Droughts are classified as: meteorological, hydrological, agricultural based on social_ economic and environmental impacts. Several approaches can he used to assess the severity of drought. In this paper, the status of drought in Mashad is analyzed based on the pecipitation percent or normal index and dccites. Results showed that the applicability of these approaches were appropriate which was observed during recent drought has started From 1378 and reached its peak in 1380. Similar droughts have also occurred in 1345 and 1349. The severity of drought was more pronounced in the first months of the growing seasons ()Iʹ 1380 and started to reduce from the month of Esfand.
