THE EFFECT OF HEALTH EDUCATION ON REDUCTION OF INTESTINAL PARASITIC INFECTION RATE IN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, ILAM CITY

This research was carried out to study the effect of Health Education based on "PRECEDE" model on the rate of intestinal parasitic infections among elementary students in Ilam city. By using a simple random sampling method, 100 pupils were selected as the case group and another 110 pupils were selected as control. According to the above model, both groups were involved in this study for a period of one year. All the samples were considered with regard to factors influencing intestinal parasite infection such as the predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors. To determine intestinal parasite infection, the sample was investigated by using the concentration method with formal in & ether. The infected pupils were treated with praziquantal. The educational intervention was then implemented in the case group.The results from both groups before and after the educational intervention were compared with respect to intestinal parasite infection and predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors.The results showed a 23% reduction in parasitic infection in the case group due to the educational intervention, while the rate was the same in the control group. This statistical difference was tested with Maknimar test which showed a significance of p<0.0001. Moreover, the comparison of the mean differences in the predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors in both groups before and after the educational intervention has led to the conclusion that it is beneficial to implement the "Health Education based on PRECEDE model" in order to reduce the rate of Intestinal Parasitic Infection among elementary students.
