Comparison of some rainfall erosivity prediction methods

Information on sediment yield from watersheds is required for the design of soil and water conservation structures. Since the measurement of sediment yield is not being done in most of the watersheds, development of accurate techniques and models based on available data are always required by engineers and mangers. In the present study an attempt has been made to assess the differences between some rainfall erosivity prediction methods applied in USLE, Hudson, EUSLE, AOF and USLE-M in the Amameh watershed in Iran. The erosivity factors calculated based on the procedure used in each model was compared with each other and their applicability for sediment yield prediction was also evaluated on storm basis. Besides the significant differences jn estimation of erosivity factor, the results of the study revealed that no significant relationship could be established between any method and observed sediment yield for which the maximum agreement of 26% was found in case of AOF model.
