بررسي اپيدميولوژيك تومورهاي نواحي زين تركي و مجاور زين تركي در استان كرمان

An Epidemiologic Study of Seller and Parasellar Tumors in Kerman

Sellar and parasellar regions consist of pituitary gland , hypotary gland , hypothalamus , optic nerve and chiasma , internal carotid artery and branches , cavernous sinus and medial portion of temporal labe . In this cross-sectional study , we collected 58 cases of sellar and parasellar tumors in Kerman from 1997 to 2001 . 48% of the cases were male and 52% were female . Their mean age was 34.4+ 19.3 . The most common tumors were pituitary adenoma (41.4%) , meningioma (24.2%) ,craniopharyngioma (20.7%) and astrocytoma (6.9%) . Epidermoid tumor and ehordoma (3.2%) were not as frequent (3.2%) . Headache was the most common symptom in 82.8% cases . No significant difference was found between the two sexes as for the prevalence of the tumors . But significant statistical difference was found in their mean ages . The findings suggested that pituitary adenoma was the most frequent tumor in the region like other studies .
