Americaʹs Military Strategy in the War against Iraq:the "Shock and Awe" Doctrine

The last decade of the 20th century has seen many theories formed by a handful of American military men and defense scholars, who got together only to present a so called "shock and Awe" doctrine. The essence of that doctrine was that the maximum military pressure exerted against an opponent within the shortest period of time, can make him face a problem such that he is driven into getting surprised and surrendering himself very immediately. As the process of planning for the war of domination started, the Pentagon war room became a forum for competition between that doctrine and the doctrine approved by the American military ("overwhelming force" doctrine). The approved plan showed to be a compromise between the two doctrines, but gave predominance to the shock and awe doctrine. However, the doctrine failed to be a success in practice and it was only a few days after the war broke out that it continued with the approved doctrine being predominated.
