The Effects of Sensory Stimulation on the level of Consciousness in Patients Sufferring from head injury Coma

This research has been done with the intention of determining the effect of sensory stimulation program on the level of consciousness on the coma in head injury pateints . This quasi-exprimental research has been done on 76 patients suffering from coma in head injury referring to Emdady Medical Center ICU in Mashhad , Iran . Sampling method was based on purpose . Subjects were randomly put into two groups : control and experimental , each containing 38 subjects studied for 14 days . First demographical information of patients were recorded ; 24 hours after admission to ICU , Glasgow coma store was measured and sensory stimulation program was done every hour for 6 hours . G.C.S. score was again measured . For the next 6 hours , the method of work was replicated . Results indicated that there was no statistically significant differences between the average level of consciousnes but there is a meaningful difference between the average length of hospital staying . Therefore , sensory simulation program may be useful in coma recovery .
