The purpose of this research was to investigate the relation between important antecedencts of mastery goal orientation and its selected consequences in the first grade female students at Ahvaz high schools. In this study, positive attitudes about education, perception of class, teacher and parent mastery goals, positive self-esteem, school belonging, social responsibility goal, intelligence, and previous academic performance were considered as the antecedent variables and mastery goal orientation as the criterion variable. Also, mastery goal orientation was considered the independent variable and academic performance, academic efficacy and self-regulated learning strategies were considered as the dependent variabels. The research sample consisted of 400 first grade female students who were studying at Ahvaz high schools in 2001-2002. The sample was selected by hte random multistage sampling method. The measurement of variabels were conducted by use of the patterns of adaptive learning scales, self-regulated learning strategies scale and other scales. According to the results of this research, there are significant positive correlations between all antecedent variables and mastery goal orientation, except for intelligence and previous academic performance variables. Also, mastery goal orientation shows significant positive relationship with academic efficacy and all of the self-regulated learning strategies except for seeking adult assistance strategy.
