MODELING TRANSIENT MIXED FLOW IN CLOSED CONDUIT

Transient mixed flow occurs und er part icular condit ions in a closed conduit, in which both free-surface and pressurized flow come into existe nce simultaneously. Depending on the origin of the mixed flow, systems experiencing thi s phenomenon may encounter several problems. Successful simula tion of mixed flows is, therefore, necessary to pr edict an d overcome t he problems encount ered . Different methods are suggested for the simulation of the mixed flows. In t his resear ch, the transient mixed flow in closed conduits has been analyze d by the slot method . The capa bilities of th e prop osed model are assesse d by the results of a physical model and the resul ts are presented . The model is further used for the prediction of a transient mixed flow in a real-word pipelin e system. The results are then used for devising some operat ional guidelines
