Productivity growth in Iranʹs agriculture: Is there any convergence between production regions? Case study: Wheat production

This paper has examined the convergence of wheatʹs total productivity factor (TFP) in 8 provinces of Iran. Inputs include seed, labor, fertilizer and pesticide. The period began from farming year of 1985 to 2006. Non-parametric frontier production function method was used to measure the productivity growth. Results have shown that Fars province had the most productivity growth both in dry and irrigation. Also, in years of 2001 to 2002 the productivity growth was more than the rest of the years. Over all, TFP in aquaculture is less than dry farming. The convergence tests show that, however the productivity growth in a short-term in different regions was various, but in long-term this trend in all regions was convergent.
