Studies on Properties of Short Fiber Reinforced Natural Rubber Composites

Natural rubber/fiber compo site s were prepared in a laboratory mixer using new and waste short nylon fiber by a one-step mixing process. Fiber loadin g and bonding agent effect s on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. The cure char acteri stics of composites were investig ated by using rheomet er, Cure and scorching times of the comp osites decreased while maximum torque s increased with increasing fibe r load ing, The mechanical properties of the composites impro ved with incre asing the short fibers. The adhesion between the fibe r and the rubber was enhan ced by the addition of a dry bonding system con sisting of resorcinol, hexamethylene tetramine and hydrated silica (HRH) .
