Conflict is inevitable for managers, especially within law enforcement organizations. There are many reasons for conflict, such as society becoming increasingly complex, managers dealing with people, and limited human and monetary resources.
Indeed, all organizations, including law enforcement, will have conflict.
Individual and organizationsʹ goals, differences in employee lifestyles and individual needs, varied interpretations of rules and regulations, physical, social and psychological differences and variations in viewpoints, all exist and contribute to disagreement and conflict.
This paper, takes a closer look at conflicts; defining it, conflicting views of conflicts, sources of conflict. Then the responsibility of managers toward conflict, how to recognize and acknowledge conflict, how to manage crisis conflict is covered. How to deal with problem employees, dealing with difficult people, handling personal attacks, handing disagreement, between others in the department, helping employees get along, dealing with external conflits, dealing with internal and external policies, maintaining healthy conflict, and conflict resolution skills are discussed in the last part.
