The effect of different irrigation intervals on water use efficiency and yield of rice (Khazar variety)

This study was conducted to evaluate the water-use efficiency of rice (Khazar cultivar) at Rasht research institute of rice. The treatments were four different irrigation intervals (two, five, eight and 11 days) in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The plot size was 15 square meters in area and 50 cm in depth. The spacing between plants was 25 x 25 cm and the soil tissue was silty-clay. The polyethylene pipes were used to irrigate the plots. The consumed water was measured in the pipes for each plot. The yield was measured in a six square meter area. The differences between treatments were significant for grain yield, number of un-filled grain, consumed water (p<0.01) and for 100 grain weight (p<0.05). The differences of yield between two and five days interval were not significant, but their consumed water was significantly different (p<0.01). Thus the irrigation interval of five days for Khazar cultivar in Gilan province can be recommended.
