Quantitative Analysis of Hand Tremor in Patients with Parkinsonʹs disease in Rest and Postural Positions by Video Tracking Method.

Introduction: In order to conduct quantitative analysis of hand tremor in Patients with Parkinsonʹs disease, a method of motion analysis (Video Tracking) has been used in this study. Methods and Materials: A system consisted of special hardware and software for motion analysis was designed and fabricated, which is able to measure and represent factors like average frequency, movement [location], and velocity [the rate] of hand tremor versus time. Both rest and postural hand tremors were evaluated in 32 patients. Results: Results indicate that the above-mentioned factors are significantly correlated in both rest and postural tremor (p<0.02). Additionally, a linear relationship could be found among these factors in both rest and postural tremors, with most significant correlation being between average frequencies in rest and postural tremors (r^2=0.996). There was no significant relationship between these factors and variables of age, sex, and hands tested.
