The Internet Use and Usersʹ Social Isolation (Cafe-Net Users of Tehran).

This study investigates the effects of the internet use on Tehranʹs cafe-net users. The network theory is adopted as the theoretical framework upon which our hypotheses are based and thus devised. The studyʹs hypotheses include measuring the effects of different aspects of the internet use (social-nonsocial) the degree of use within a 24-hour period, intensity of the userʹs social communications in the real world, and userʹs experience and skills in internet use on social isolation. A total of 204 persons among the Tehranʹs cafe-net users were selected through quota-random technique who tilled the questionnaires. Based on multivariable regression analysis the above hypotheses were tested. The results show that there is a significant and reverse relationship between the length of the internet use (within a 24-hour span) and social isolation. In addition, the results indicate that social use of the internet decreases social isolation.
